Result:Finally,41 qualified literature articles covering 35 prescriptons and 66 drugs were included in the study. The total frequency of the drugs was 433 times. Among them, there were a total of 25 traditional Chinese medicines with a frequency of ≥5 times. The top 3 frequently used Chinese medicines were Astragali Radix (8.8%),Salviae Miltiorrhizae Radix et Rhizoma (7.2%),Chuanxiong Rhizoma (5.8%). A total of 15 types of drugs were involved, among which tonic drugs (31.4%),blood promoting and blood stasis drugs (28.2%),and hydration and dampening drugs (7.6%) were used most frequently. The association rule analysis of traditional Chinese medicines with frequency of ≥ 5 showed that there were 13 pairs of binomial associations in 25 traditional Chinese medicines, with Astragali Radix in combination with Salviae Miltiorrhizae Radix et Rhizoma,Chuanxiong Rhizoma,Carthami Flos,et al. There were 8 groups of three associations, with Astragali Radix,Salviae Miltiorrhizae Radix et Rhizoma, and Chuanxiong Rhizoma as the main combinations. A systematic clustering analysis showed that the clustering effect was best when the 25 traditional Chinese medicines were clustered into 5 categories. Conclusion:The treatment of coronary heart disease with heart failure of Qi deficiency and blood stasis syndrome is based on replenishing qi and activating blood circulation, supplemented by warming yang, diuresis, and phlegm-resolving drugs, which can enhance the clinical efficacy. Two basic prescriptions of Buyang Huanwutang and Si junzitang are extracted. Other combinations of prescriptions and drugs can provide references for the clinical treatment of coronary heart disease with heart failure.

ABSTRACT

The compatibility of Chinese materia medica (CMM) studies the relations between herbs and their interacting effects. With complex medications for individuals and massive CMM data, it is difficult for traditional data mining methods to reveal the inherent rules in compatibility analysis. This paper with the theory of complex network constructs a “formulae-herb” network to analyze herb combinations based on the overlapping communities for internal rules in CMM classic formulae. Based on the complex network, the formulae can be abstracted to a graph and represented by nodes and edges, herbs as nodes, and the relationships of herbs as edges. The edges were weighted according to the frequency of co-occurrence of two herbs. “Formulae-herb” network was then constructed based on all formulae in the study. A definition “herb influence” was introduced into the network to identify important herb nodes, with which a method of “formulae-herb” network division was introduced based on overlapping communities to discover the structure of the herb relations. Finally, the inherent laws in the community were discussed. A “formulae-herb” network was constructed based on 112 formulae from Treatise on Cold Damage. Herbs with high influence are in line with Zhang Zhong-Jing's medication principle of “combining cold and warm, use of pungent, sweet and bitter together”. This paper also incorporates FCM (fuzzy C-means) algorithm to discover the commonly used herb groups hidden in the medication. A model of treating Shaoyin syndrom was constructed as an application. Herbs with high influence were in line with the treating method of “warming meridian and reinforcing yang, promoting urination and draining dampness”. The result showed that multiple herb groups were clearly classified. “Formulae-herb” network model showed high quality overlapping community structures, the analysis of inherent laws in the community can provide basis for the exploration of compatibility rules of herbs and internal rules in formulae regularities.

ABSTRACT

Objective:To investigate the medication rules of traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) for the treatment of diabetic peripheral neuropathy (DPN).Method:The literature published in China Knowledge Resource Integrated Database (CNKI), Wanfang Database, China Biomedical Literature Service System (SinoMed), VIP Database and PubMeb from 2008 to 2019 were retrieved by setting the topics of diabetic peripheral neuropathy and TCM. After screening, a database was established to analyze the medication rules (efficacy, frequency, flavor and meridian tropism, common couplet medicinals and core medicines) of TCM by frequency statistics, association rules and data statistical methods of constructing complex networks.Result:A total of 461 papers for treatment of DPN were included in this study, including 275 kinds of TCM and a total frequency of 6 361 times. Astragali Radix had the highest frequency. Among all kinds of medicinal materials, activating blood circulation and removing stasis was the most commonly used medicine, followed by Qi-invigorating medicine. Flavor of medicines was mainly sugariness and warm, and most of their meridian tropism was liver meridian. After the analysis by association rules, the couplet medicinals with the highest support was Astragali Radix-Angelicae Sinensis Radix. The core medicines obtained by complex network analysis were Astragali Radix, Angelicae Sinensis Radix, Chuanxiong Rhizoma, Spatholobi Caulis, Cinnamomi Ramulus, Carthami Flos, Pheretima, Paeoniae Radix Rubra, Salviae Miltiorrhizae Radix et Rhizoma and Persicae Semen. Conclusion:This study comprehensively analyzes the medication rules of TCM clinical treatment of DPN. The main treatment methods of TCM for DPN are invigorating Qi and blood, activating blood circulation and removing stasis, activating meridians to stop pain, which can provide guidance for the TCM clinical use and new Chinese medicines research and development of DPN.

ABSTRACT

To explore famous veteran traditional Chinese medicine( TCM) doctors' medication rules in treating spermatorrhea based on the medical cases about spermatorrhea collected from Hundred TCM Clinical Doctors of Hundred Years in China and Proven Cases and National Medical Master Test Case. Researchers extracted such data as medicinal and therapies from these cases according to the inclusion and exclusion criteria. Then,Excle 2010,SPSS Clementine 12. 0 and SPSS 22. 0 were adopted respectively for frequency analysis, association rules analysis, cluster analysis and factor analysis. Cluster analysis was carried out by Ochiai algorithm of binary variable data, one of the systematic clustering methods. And principal component analysis was used for factor analysis. Finally,27 medical cases and 41 prescriptions were included in total. The frequency analysis showed that the most common therapy was the astringent therapy( n = 28),which was followed by the tonifying method, tranquilizing method,heat-clearing method,damp-dispelling method and Qiregulating method. The top three kinds of high-frequency traditional Chinese medicines were Poria,Ostreae Concha and Dioscoreae Rhizoma. The association rules analysis found out 11 association rules of medicine pairs,23 association rules of medicine combinations of the three kinds of herbs and 6 association rules of medicine combinations of five kinds of herbs. Among them, the representatives were Rubi Fructus→Fossilia Ossis Mastodi,Rehmanniae Radix Praeparata + Corni Fructus→Dioscoreae Rhizoma, and Pinelliae Rhizoma→Citri Reticulatae Pericarpium, which showed the therapeutic characteristics of astringing, tonifying the kidney and replenishing essence, fortifying the spleen and dispelling dampness. Moreover,7 medicine groups with relevance were extracted from the tree map generated by cluster analysis, including " Phellodendri Chinensis Cortex and Anemarrhenae Rhizoma" and " Angelicae Sinensis Radix,Rehmanniae Radix,Bupleuri Radix and Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma",which demonstrated the effects of nourishing Yin and purging fire, tonifying and soothing the liver. Besides, totally 12 common factors were obtained according to factor analysis, including 14 drug combinations, like " Amomi Fructus,Anemarrhenae Rhizoma and Phellodendri Chinensis Cortex" and " Nelumbinis Stamen,Moutan Cortex,Poria and Scrophulariae Radix",which indicated the compatibility characteristics of tonifying the spleen and purging fire, dispelling dampness and clearing heat. In conclusion, data mining techniques( including frequency analysis, association rules analysis, cluster analysis and factor analysis) were used to comprehensively analyze the famous veteran TCM doctors' medication rules in treating spermatorrhea, which was helpful for guiding the clinical practice of treating spermatorrhea in TCM.
